There is no way the MBP's will recieve resolution upgrades before Leopard. Santa Rosa MBP's will definiantly be bumped to 1680x1050 and 1920x1200. Tiger is resolution dependent, which means that a higher DPI would make it nearly impossible to see anything.
Tiger also has a lot of controls to increase system level font sizes plus ZOOM so I don't think going higher res would be a problem with Tiger.
But please tell us more of what you know about resolution independence with Leopard and what new display technologies coming next year?
I too am interested in the display and related resolution questions.... A 17" MBP for used for video editing would make much more sense with a HD screen ie >1920x1080 (Sony already sell a 1920x1200 machine http://b2b.sony.com/Solutions/product/VGN-AR290G has a blu-ray burner too...)

What if free Antivirus software is designed to help identify security holes, and the best way to infect Mac's wide-scale? I've always thought virii has to be engineered under contract by companies making the "solutions" to them, there are far too many virii out there on a daily basis, to such an extent that it has to be developed on a full-time basis with some corporate involvement somewhere. There are a lot more things to do for kicks these days, other than write malware, you'd think people have better things to do, unless there is money in making them..=]
edit: Is there an infrastructure in place, to investigate whether or not anti-virus companies are involved in any way shape or form, with the development of malware? if not, then who keeps these companies in check to insure they aren't in any way involved with malware creation, to support their own industry? Sorry but any company that feeds fear and paranoia to sell or distribute their wares, needs to brought under check somehow.

Hmmm...is Apple going to be changing to new chips every six months now? Nice to see technology moving along at a rapid pace, but for those people who always need the latest and greatest...This is gonna get REAL expensive!:p
How many people plan to dump their Core Duo Macs for Core 2 Duo Macs? I like my iMac and it really is fast, heck my iMac G5 was plenty fast, but I hate being behind everyone when new things come out and it gets too expensive to keep up with Apple...well not in the PowerPC days...but now it does!

Don't worry, I say this now -NO MBP CPU UPDATE AT WWDC- or till December for that matter. MBP itself has its own issues to be fixed like overheating, battery life and slower superdrive. I would be happier if they fix these issues instead of putting slightly faster chip and producing more heat and moans. And even if they do, you won't see big difference in performance anyways. So just enjoy your MB while it lasts.
A chip update has NOTHING to do with any outstanding issues, sorry...Apple is fully capable of fixing those (if any) with a better design AND a better chip.

Why would they give the Macbook that but leave the iMac with the original Core Duo? Doesn't make sense. I would think all three would get it or just the Macbook Pro.
No one said the iMac won't get the Conroe Core 2 Duo chip; just that MBP and MB will get Merom--I also expect the Mac Mini to receive a dual-core Merom. WWDC is for developers; Paris, for more consumer-oriented things. I think the big announcement at Paris will be that all of Apple's lineup will be 64 bit with a simultaneous unveiling of updated iMacs, Mac Minis, MBPs, and MBs--though I still wonder about a new form factor for the MBPs. If not at Paris, then I expect a new form factor with the debut of the Santa Rosa chipset and Leopard next Spring.

It'd be cool for Apple to start building a small, fast SSD "drive" (memory chips) into every Mac, that would be dedicated to the core System, and only the System. Small enough to be inexpensive, large enough to easily accommodate current and future System files, fast enough to be faster than any current hard drive. Make the drive say 32-64 GB, with two partitions. One partition holds the installed System, the other partition is just scratch space for downloaded and uninstalled software, including the System itself. Possibly this partition contains some minimal boot system in order to re-download and install the package from the app store in case the installation gets botched.
I would love this. I remember the old Commodore 64 days when the OS was on ROM chips and it was an instant boot. Nowadays that wouldn't be very practical with OS updates, but something similar would be great.
Imagine being able to do a complete system restore and have a barebones OS be unaffected.

If you go into the custom config screen for a Mac Pro there is a drop down box that explains the memory requirements. In the box there is a caution about some sort of fancy memory heat sink Apple uses that is not on other memory modules. That kind of scared me, so I just went with the Apple memory upgrade. For the extra $98 I figured it was not worth the chance of Crucial memory not working properly.
I see on Newegg there is a Kingston module with the right specs, and the picture looks like there is a heat sink attached... but who knows if it is like the one Apple specifies.
