    I'm thinking more along the lines of a really thin flip phone. The ipod functionality would be on the outside of the flip (ie click wheel) and the keypad would be on the inside of the flip. Close the flip and the exposed LCD shows a normal ipod screen. Open the flp and the screen shows the phone interface.

    good idea. what about the headphone port?

    wow thats pretty cool with the option of the trackpad. I think its a must on any iMac. I couldn't live without it. :)

    I can't agree more. I bought a trackpad a few months ago for using with my MacBook when I'm at home using the MacBook in Clamshell mode on a monitor. I was finding, increasingly, that I was missing the gestures that I had unconsciously got used to when using the laptop at University. I was actually finding my old mouse quite annoying!

    The trackpad is a great device and natural to use, I would feel frustrated without it..

    I don't claim to know a thing about trademark law, but looking at this simply I find it difficult to understand how the term "Windows" can become a trademark but "App Store" cannot.

    "Windows" is not the definition of the thing itself, as "App Store" ;)

    99% of these are in a huff self important 'tempest in a teapot' stories;
    its not required-nay not even helpful to be a fanboy to point this out-just 2 good eyes and a brain;
    Alway been complainers, always will be;
    If the rules are clearly spelled out and they dont follow them-then they shouldnt be crybabies in public
    simple
    CAREFULLY read APPLEs developers rules
    follow them
    dont try to breach them

    you dont need a PhD to understand this

    So, did you even READ what Rogue Amoeba had to say?

    I'm seriously amazed with you apologists. You guys are defending Apple in an instance where they are CLEARLY in the wrong.

    This device is precisely why I haven't replaced my Airport Express (see sig). I sure hope this turns out to be true because this is exactly what I've been waiting for!

    New nano and 23" iMac would be sweet too, although I don't need a new computer so it doesn't really affect me much.

    yup, this would be vertical acquisition, well probably more diagonal

    Consumer Photography/Video- Apple knows something about this
    Consumer Printing - Apple knows something about this

    Apple has shipped over a million cameras in the last quarter alone so they do know something about the business.

    Business- Canon is a big name in business Apple needs to get in
    Medical - Canon is a big name in Medicine Apple needs to get in

    Apple needs to grow, they must make shareholders Happy... this world revolves around shareholders, that's it, well actually making WallStreet Happy.

    Then tell me what you would do with $10billion in Cash?

    It's either that or give it all to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

    Wow. Good news for Apple and the future of the iTS in getting more studios on board. :)

    If Apple can just convince studios to release movies in 720p and 1080p formats, it would kill off the blu-ray / HD DVD rivalry once and for all.
    GOOD! I think the HD DVD is out of control already. The future isn't in DVDs in my opinion, it's in digital formats. The iTV is just the first to prove it.

    I am glad this movie thing is successful. I like the lower prices on new releases but I wish I could burn one copy to dvd so I can watch it anywhere.

    I really hope this happens but I have a feeling that it will be hobbled in some way. If it runs from an iTunes master copy of songs then it might preclude people uploading music that has been ripped from CDs or bought somewhere else (like Amazon).

    Actually, Amazon gives you 5 gigs of space on your cloud drive for your own MP3s. When/if you buy songs from them, you get additional space for the songs you've purchased.

    The "world" isn't going to support ThunderPants as Intel now embraces USB3.

    Can you provide any indications that Intel is dropping support for Thunderbolt? Any reason to believe that PC makers won't provide USB ports like they do now but also DisplayPorts like they do now, only in both cases the ports are upgraded to support USB 3 and thunderbolt?

    It this utter ignorance and false sense of security in the Mac user base that I would use to my advantage if I were a cyber-criminal.
    It's neither ignorance nor a false sense of security. It's an awareness that virus threats don't exist and no antivirus can protect against something that doesn't exist.
    I've seen more than enough evidence over the past few years to tell me that it's far from safe.
    No OS is immune to malware, but it's impossible to protect yourself from something that does not yet exist.
    The latest Safari/Webkit hacking contest result alone should be enough to cause any reasonable person to take notice.
    Hacking a browser and creating a virus that can infect Mac OS X are two different animals.
    I think a few people will be changing their tunes the day the crap finally hits the fan.
    The day it "hits the fan", news sites and forums will be buzzing about the threat, making most Mac users aware. At that time a protection to the threat will be introduced. Only an extremely minute percentage of Mac users are likely to ever be infected, should that ever happen. Any antivirus apps installed today will be completely useless in defending against a newly-introduced virus, because they simply don't know what to look for.

    gugy-

    You aren't a graphics professional, I take it.

    Glossy screens are, indeed, typically better than the "diffused" screens. Diffused screens prevent glare by adding a layer of diffusing material that scatters light to avoid the "mirror" effect. The problem with this is that it also scatters the light coming from the monitor. This reduces color contrast and vibrancy greatly. Put a diffused and glossy MacBook Pro next to each other. The difference is immediately obvious.

    With glossy screens, the image from the monitor isn't diffused, which gives you a virtually wider gamut with much better color contrast and quality. Of course, because it's glossy, you'll have to make sure your environmental lighting doesn't interfere with it.

    So, for instance, if you're a filmmaker with a PowerBook for on-site video editing, you might want a diffused screen if you do a lot of outdoor work. If you're a designer that uses a desktop screen in a controlled studio/office environment, you'll want a glossy screen.

    Of course, regardless of coating, LCDs have a much wider color gamut than print, so it's really not that important whether or not your screen is glossy or diffused, as long as it's a quality monitor if you're a print designer. For true precision color work, DTP pros go with insane monitors that would make your wallet cry. Most of those screens have glossy coatings. TV work relies on insanely expensive "reference" monitors for emulating the "average" TV with precision.

    I wondering how many people are now going to put off buying a Mac Pro and wait for a faster Kentsfield :confused:

    The Mac Pros a fast as it is now, Kentsfield would smash the previous benchmarks but a fair margin.

    That artists rendition posted on the front page is pointless. It's not as though that is the actual design. It looks too Nano-ish, and even the Nano look has changed.

    Anyway, I'm not excited about an iPhone. It would need to give me at least one neat feature for this to be worth drooling over.

    Remember, we have high taxes (~20% VAT etc) but better public services in general.
    If you calculate where personal income goes, the US has effectively similar tax rates to most of Europe, just more of it goes to private business instead of the government. The structure of the legal system supports funneling our money upward in a manner that is functionally indistinguishable from privatized taxation. Lamentably, the ROI on privatization, AFAICT, is far lower in the private sector (compare the benefit/overhead ratio of Medicare to most private insurance companies). Personally, I would take government services over more costly, lower quality private services every freaking time.

    The dynamic that the US faces right now is similar to north Africa and the Arabian peninsula: as those in power work out more ways to benefit from the misery of the essentially powerless, more and more people are acquiring less and less to lose. The tipping point will be when the sheer volume of despair overtops the levee of hope. The Prince describes these cycles of society. What follows may well be a slight revision of its antecedent, unless we can somehow refer to history to discover some way to break the cycle.
