Tila Tequila Nguyen released a statement through her lawyers about the incident that took place between The Shot Of Love star and Shawne Merriman:

"Shawne Merriman and his advisors have decided that the best defense is a good offense, attacking Tila Tequila in the press with a lot of calculated spin to cover up his illegal and indefensible actions.

Fortunately, we as a society will not tolerate a 6'4", 270 pound all-pro NFL linebacker physically assaulting a young lady who is 4'11" and 93 pounds. It is never justifiable to brutally assault, choke, strike and imprison a woman.

Once the truth is fully revealed, Mr. Merriman's fantastic story of how he was trying to keep Ms. Tequila safe will be completely discredited.

People from the Shawne Merriman camp has been suggesting that Tila Tequila was drunk and the NFL player was trying to prevent Nguyen from leaving and harming herself. Stingaree nightclub owner James Brennan says that several of his employees have said that Tila Nguyen had several shots of Tequila and was seen sipping straight from a vodka bottle. Tila has said that boyfriend Shawne Merriman choked and physically restrained her which ended in the San Diego Charger being arrested. Merriman told Fox Sports News that he was trying to protect Tila from Tila which makes one believe that she was drunk and was about to drive home. Shawne Merriman has opened up about the alleged assault against girlfriend Tila Tequila that saw him being arrested. On the Fox Sports News earlier today Merriman made the following statement:

On September 6, 2009 the San Diego Sheriff's Department responded to a citizen's complaint that was initiated by Tila Nguyen (aka Tila Tequila). I was taken into custody based upon that complaint. At the time, I was concerned about her welfare given the intoxicated state she appeared to be in and I encouraged her to stay until safe transportation could be provided.

"We would all do our best to help a friend if we considered their actions to be detrimental to their personal safety. I in no way caused any harm to Ms. Nguyen, however, paramedics were called and she was examined but no injuries were reported. She was released and has since returned to Los Angeles, California.

"There have been no charges filed against me. I want to thank the San Diego Sheriff's Department for their professionalism. I will continue to cooperate fully with the Department, and I look forward to clearing my name regarding these false allegations. I want to put this behind me so I can continue to focus on a successful season for the San Diego Chargers."

When police arrived at the scene they saw a visibly shaken Tila and Merriman was arrested after Tila signed a citizen warrant. Police brought Shawne to the police station on charges of suspicion of battery and false imprisonment. Tila Nguyen was taken to the hospital and released a short time later. The front office of the NFL San Diego Chargers released a statement basically saying they are following the legal aspect of the case and will make a decision when all of the information was in.
