Mats Sundin has officially hung up his skates and retired from the NHL. Sundin made the announcement of his retirement at a press conference in Sweeden. Mats Sundin was a long time Toronto Maple Leaf and many wished he ended his career there last year instead of playing his final year with the Vancouver Canucks. In eighteen years in the NHL he put together 1,349 points (564 goals, 785 assists over 1,346 games.)

Theo Fleury Released By Calgary Flames Photos

Theo Fleury comeback has ended as the former all star was released by the Calgary Flames earlier today. Theo had retired from the NHL six years ago and decided that he wanted to return to the NHL once again and performed a lot better than most expected. The Calgary Flames GM Darryl Sutter released the following statement "I believe Theoren did a great job and should be proud, especially considering all the factors including age, time away from the game and lifestyle change. This is not a hockey story, its a life story. Our agreement with Theoren was that he had to be one of our top six wingers and there were never any intentions of assigning him to the American Hockey League." It is not known at this point whether or not Theo Fleury will continue his comeback with another team or league.

Dany Heatley has finally been traded to the San Jose Sharks ending a roller coaster of rumors surrounding the NHL superstar. The trade saw Heatley and a fifth round pick going to San Jose in exchange for Milan Michalek, Jonathan Cheechoo and a second-round pick going to Ottawa Senators. Heatley had been complaining that the Ottawa Senators were not using him properly and made it known at the end of the last NHL season that he wanted to be moved.

With the new deal the Canucks will pay Luongo $10 million in 2010-11 and about $6.7 million from 2012-13 through 2017-18; about $3.3 million in 2018-19; and about $1.6 million in 2019-20 before declining to $1 million for the final two seasons. Roberto Luongo also has his eyes set on making the 2010 Team Canada hockey team.
