The Houston Rockets are set to acquire swingman Terrence Williams from the New Jersey Nets in a three-team trade that will also send Sasha Vujacic to New Jersey and Joe Smith to the Los Angeles Lakers. L.A. and Houston will each send a first round pick to New Jersey to complete the deal, which will become official on Wednesday.
The Breakdown
Houston Rockets: Williams had fallen out of favor in New Jersey and the talented second-year man out of Louisville will get a fresh start. It's not immediately clear where Williams fit in as the wings are crowded in Houston. Courtney Lee and Chase Budinger are each seeing nearly 20 minutes a game behind Shane Battier and Kevin Martin, so one of them will likely have to fall out of the rotation for Williams to be fantasy relevant. Owners in deep leagues will certainly want to make a speculative addition at this point. Williams is available in about two-thirds of leagues.
New Jersey Nets: The Lakers sent Vujacic to New Jersey purely to reduce their luxury tax this season. He was barely getting off the pine, so a trade may be just what he needed to have any sort of value. While New Jersey isn't a deep team, we don't anticipate Sasha becoming a huge part of their rotation. Owners in the deepest of leagues may want to take a flyer on Vujacic and evaluate his first few games for his new team.
Los Angeles Lakers: Joe Smith doesn't figure to get off the bench in L.A. The Lakers just wanted him for his minimum contract. He's not worth a roster spot even in the deepest of leagues.
