The San Antonio Express-News reports that Manu Ginobili will open the season as the Spurs' starting shooting guard.
The Breakdown
With youngsters such as James Anderson and Alonzo Gee on the squad, the Spurs don't have the experienced guards they've had in previous years that allowed Ginobili to play the sixth man role that coach Gregg Popovich prefers. At some point in the season, though, Ginobili could be shifted back to a role with the second unit. Whether he starts or comes off the bench, Manu will remain a big part of the Spurs rotation and will be counted on for heavy minutes.
