WTF House

So, apparently, there is a new genre of music that has been dropped on my doorstep -- bear with me guys -- it's called 'witch house'.

Yup. My reaction exactly.

'Witch house' (still in quotes because I'm guessing this genre lasts... two more weeks) incorporates heavy, darker synth-pop and an incredibly blunt interpretation of darkwave. Basically it sounds like Fever Ray. Sometimes Crystal Castles. A pot-fogged collaboration of both, perhaps.

Research shows that 2009 was the beginning of the “witch house” style, which is also known as “black house” or “drag”. Coined and popularized by SHAMS and Pictureplane, two practitioners and advocates (lol) of the witch house movement. Other bands include SALEM, Tearist, White Ring, and Modern Witch.

Running themes include triangles, grainy VHS-style videos, and imagery often related to Chaos Magick. Or the phrase "I ▲ WITCH HOUSE".

Still, I'm skeptical. Some of what I've heard really isn't all that bad. Some of it sounds like drunken amateur hour at a run-down 80's goth club.

You decide for yourself --

Here's the lowdown. In three hours my shift ends, at which point I will be leaving you and meeting with (???) for a celebratory 'best [blogger] in the city' date guaranteed to end in crazy hotel room sex. I'm thinking six-inch heels, a leather mask, and fishnet stockings. Who knows? She may even get dressed up. (Dr. Cox, with a few *minor* edits by yours truly)

Anyways, I'm out,
